Resumen

This one-day tour lets you reach Machu Picchu via a comfortable train ride. Peru Qantu Adventures handles everything with care. Our team picks you up early from your hotel in Cusco. You travel in our own private transportation with drivers who know the roads well.

A local guide joins later to explain the Inca history in detail. These guides speak several languages and have led groups from around the world for years. They make sure you understand each Inca construction at Machu Picchu.

The train journey shows Andean landscapes up close. You see the Sacred Valley with its river and mountains. One of our representatives stays in touch throughout your day to check on your schedule.

In the dry season, the train starts from Poroy, close to Cusco. During rainy months from January to April, it begins in Ollantaytambo. This keeps things smooth no matter the weather.

You choose your train between Peru Rail Vistadome or Inca Rail 360. Peru Rail Vistadome has roof windows and a short cultural show. Inca Rail 360 offers full-circle views with extra leg room.

At Machu Picchu, the 2-hour tour covers key Inca sites. Your guide points out terraces, temples, and living areas. Free time follows for your own photos.

Peru Qantu Adventures limits groups to 8 people. This means personal attention. I once saw a family learn more about quinoa terraces than in bigger tours.

What time does pickup happen?

Does rainy season change the plan?

Yes, during the rainy season (January–April), pickup is earlier at 04:45 a.m. to reach Ollantaytambo in time for the 07:05 a.m. train. The route and schedule are adjusted for weather conditions, ensuring a safe and smooth trip back to Ollantaytambo after the tour.

Can I choose my train company?

Yes, you can choose between Peru Rail Vistadome, which includes onboard entertainment and panoramic views, or Inca Rail 360, known for extra space and wide windows. Both offer excellent service at the same price — just let us know your preference when booking.

What circuit do I get at Machu Picchu?

Your entry includes Circuit 2A or 2B, depending on availability. Both circuits cover the main temples, terraces, and iconic viewpoints of Machu Picchu. To guarantee your preferred route, we recommend booking early, as spaces are limited.

Is there a guide the whole day?

A certified local guide will meet you in Aguas Calientes and accompany you during a 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu. Afterward, you’ll have free time to explore, take photos, or relax. All guides are experts in Inca culture and history.

How physical is the tour?

The tour involves mild walking on uneven stone paths but no steep climbs unless you choose an optional hike. The 2-hour guided visit is suitable for most fitness levels, including families and older travelers.

What if I miss my return train?

If you miss your scheduled train, don’t worry — our team monitors departure times and will assist you in booking the next available train. There may be an additional fee, so contact our local representative immediately for support.

Are meals provided?

Meals are not included, but there are plenty of dining options in Aguas Calientes. We recommend trying organic local dishes, such as quinoa soup or grilled trout. Our team can suggest restaurants to suit your preferences and timing.

Can kids join?

Absolutely! The tour is family-friendly, and children under 11 receive a discounted rate. The gentle pace and fascinating history make it enjoyable for all ages. Remember to bring passports for every traveler, including children.

What’s the group size?

Groups are kept small, with a maximum of 8 people. This allows for personalized guidance, easier coordination, and a more intimate experience without large crowds.

Do I need altitude meds?

The altitude at Machu Picchu is 2,430 meters (7,970 ft) — much lower than Cusco. While altitude medication is optional, staying hydrated and taking it easy are usually enough for most travelers. Consult your doctor if you have concerns.

Is WiFi on the train?

WiFi availability is limited due to the mountainous terrain. You can still use your device for photos or offline music, but it’s best to save your battery for the day’s adventure.

Can I add Sun Gate hike?

Yes, for an additional $55 USD, you can add the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) hike. It’s a 1.5-hour walk offering stunning views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding peaks. Request it during booking to ensure entry availability.

What if staying in Ollantaytambo?

If you’re staying in Ollantaytambo, pickup is at 06:45 a.m. regardless of season. You’ll be taken directly to the train station, making the start of your day simple and convenient.
